MARIETTA — The following reports were released by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department on Dec. 18:

Dec. 14

* Sgt. Parks met with Andrew Starkey in reference to a stolen vehicle. This case remains under investigation.

Dec. 15

* At approximately 11:45 p.m., Sgt. Parks along with the Marietta City Police and Fire Departments were called to Wal-Mart, Marietta, in reference to a vehicle on fire in the parking lot. A male and female were observed fleeing the vehicle. The vehicle was found to be stolen from Westfall Towing, County Road 9, Marietta. Westfall checked and found, along with the vehicle, spools of copper wire, light bars, a key and key fob were also missing.

Dwayne E. Miller and Keryn A. Miller reside next to the impound lot at 1177 County Road Nine and the residence is within sight of the impound lot, separated only by a field. Deputies processed the vehicle, allegedly recovering a notebook with “Keryn” written on it, along with other notes written in relation to criminal activity, officials said. Items recovered from the vehicle included copper cable.

The sheriff’s office received a complaint from Travis Westfall that someone was observed on the surveillance cameras at the impound lot. A check of the lot did not yield a suspect at that time; however, a subject was reported to have fled toward the Miller residence.

A search warrant was obtained for Dwayne and Keryn Miller’s residence. During the search a key to an Audi (which fit an Audi at the impound lot) was located in Dwayne’s pocket. Other items of evidence were recovered that had been located in vehicles or on the property of Westfall Towing. A burn barrel full of wire coating was also located on the property. Dwayne Edward Miller, 55, and Keryn Ann Miller, 36, were both placed under arrest and charged with felony theft. The Millers were transported to the Washington County Jail for processing.

* Deputy Allender responded to 180 Mitchell Drive, Newport, to a report by Roger Leasure of property damage. This case remains under investigation.

Dec. 17

* Sgt. Carr responded to 714 Main Street, New Matamoras, and met with Nicole Berentz. Nicole stated she had been in a domestic dispute with her husband, Ryan Berentz, during the night. During the incident Nicole states Ryan struck her in the face. Nicole states that Ryan also was threatening to harm himself, at which time Nicole left the residence, later returning and not being able to find Ryan. Nicole reported Ryan may have locked himself in the garage, which was checked. Deputies then searched the home for Ryan, finding him in a bedroom. A handgun was located near the bed and was secured at that time. Deputies woke Ryan and found him to be unsteady on his feet and smelling of an alcoholic beverage. Ryan attempted to break free while being escorted to the patrol vehicle. Ryan Michael Berentz, 47, was placed under arrest and charged with using weapons while intoxicated and domestic violence. While at the jail Berentz tested .148 BAC.

* Deputy McConnell and Deputy Aultman met with Carl Lafatch, Belpre, in reference to a stolen John Deere tractor.

* Deputy Brown was patrolling the area of State Route 7 and Evans Street, New Matamoras, when a silver Toyota sedan was observed being driven by Nicole Berentz. Deputies had just been with Berentz at her residence approximately 20 minutes prior, where she (Nicole) self-admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages at the home. Also while there with her, on an unrelated incident, she was observed having difficulty standing without swaying and her speech was slurred. Berentz stopped and Deputy Brown made contact with her. Berentz was still having difficulty standing without swaying and her speech was slurred. Berentz was very belligerent and cursing at Deputy Brown. When asked to submit to field sobriety testing Berentz refused. Deputy Brown located a large bottle of “Tito’s vodka” in the passenger seat (which was almost empty) along with a bottle containing lemonade. Both of these bottles Berentz had with her at the residence earlier in the evening. Nicole Shane Berentz, 46, 714 Main Street, New Matamoras, was placed under arrest for driving while under the influence of alcohol/drugs, and a stop light violation. Berentz was transported to the Washington County Jail where the PBT showed a result of .301 BAC.
