ATHENS – On Aug. 26, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 25, deputies took a report in Glouster where a trailer plate was stolen Aug. 24 or Aug. 25.

* On Aug. 25, deputies responded to Main Street in Chauncey for an abandoned vehicle.

* On Aug. 25, deputies spoke with a male that called about mail taken from his mailbox.

* On Aug. 25, at 11:28 p.m., deputies responded to a residence in York Township about a dispute over property between family members. In speaking with the complainant, it was determined that much of the dispute was civil in nature and could not be of assistance in this matter.

* On Aug. 25, at 11:51 p.m., deputies responded to a residence in York Township for a trespass complaint.

Athens Sheriff

ATHENS – On Aug. 24, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 23, a deputy responded to Bessemer Road in Buchtel/Nelsonville on a attempted burglary. The lock mechanism to a basement door was removed and a cigarette butt was located just outside.

* On Aug. 23, the sheriff’s office spoke with several individuals on Roy Avenue in The Plains about urinating in their yard in view of the public.

* On Aug. 23, the sheriff’s office responded to a residence on old State Route 56 for an active burglary. The caller stated she had passed the residence and saw a man raising a window with a crowbar in his hand. Upon arrival, units made contact with the homeowner who had a power washer wand in his hand power washing his house.

* On Aug. 23, a resident of Big Bailey Road reported that he was hospitalized the first week of August and spent an extended time in the hospital. Upon getting released he found his wallet is missing from his residence.

* On Aug. 23, the sheriff’s office took a report from a woman who advised she had purchased her prescription from the Kroger in Trimble and forgot to put it in her shopping bags.

* On Aug. 23, the sheriff’s office took a report of stolen weed-eaters on the Taylor Ridge Road area in Glouster. The complainant advised he last saw his weed trimmers on Aug. 22, when he used them during the morning hours and then placed them back in his shed.

* On Aug. 23, deputies responded to Albany for an active dispute. On scene, deputies met with the complainant who advised her boyfriend had been over at her residence and assaulted her over an argument regarding medication. The complainant did not wish to file charges.

ATHENS – On Aug. 25, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 24, deputies were dispatched to a Pleasant Hill address on a verbal dispute between two family members over possession of a vehicle. Deputies met the complainant at another location and then went to the address where she took possession of the car that is legally hers.

* On Aug. 24, deputies responded to Tomoko Trailer Court in reference to an impaired driver and a physical dispute. Deputies arrived on scene, spoke with all parties, and observed an accident where a vehicle struck a propane tank. EMS came to evaluate the driver. The Plains Volunteer Fire Department responded to secure the scene. No charges were issued.

ATHENS?-?On Aug. 22, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 19, deputies received a report of a burglary. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the complainant who advised that his house was broken into between Aug. 1 and Aug. 22. Entry was made into the residence.

* On Aug. 20, deputies took a report of harassment. The majority of the harassment was conducted on Facebook so the complainant was advised to block the person who was harassing him on Facebook.

* On Aug. 20, deputies took a report from an individual who indicated they had dropped their vehicle off at an acquaintance’s residence in Athens Township for repairs. During the day, another individual showed up at the residence and apparently took the keys to the vehicle and drove it away. The vehicle has been entered into a stolen car database.

* On Aug. 20, deputies responded to Dogwood Road, Nelsonville, for a dispute. Deputies spoke with all parties and determined that charges will be filed. John Pritchett, 48, of Nelsonville was charged with aggravated trespassing. Manford Casto, 32, of Nelsonville was charged with aggravated menacing.

* On Aug. 20, deputies took a report of identity theft by phone. The complainant advised that she was contacted by her security company to inform her that a credit card had been opened in her name through Citi Bank. She advised that she did not start that card and no permission was given to start the card. The identity theft division of Citi Bank will conduct an investigation into the matter.

* On Aug. 20, deputies were contacted by a woman who said her ex-boyfriend was calling her and threatening her.

* On Aug. 20, the Athens County Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop where Michael Hart, 38, of Chauncey was driving with a suspended license. Upon confirming his information, Hart was issued a citation for driving under suspension. A valid driver could not be located so the vehicle was towed from the scene.

* On Aug. 20, the Athens County Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle where the driver, Richard Hudnall, 27, of New Marshfield was driving with a suspended license. Upon making contact, it was also discovered that the passenger Samantha Heskett, 27, of Athens had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. Both parties received a citation and advised of their court date.

* On Aug. 20, the Albany Police Department along with an Athens County police dog conducted a traffic stop on Washington Road in Albany. K9 Bora had a positive indication on the vehicle and a search of the vehicle yielded marijuana and a marijuana pipe. Charges are pending through Albany police.

* On Aug. 20, while on patrol in The Plains, deputies conducted a traffic stop. While on the traffic stop, a police dog indicated to the odor of narcotics. A search of the vehicle yielded marijuana and a marijuana pipe. Citations were issued to Dustin Cousins, 25, of Athens, and Carl Johnson, 26, of New Marshfield.

* On Aug. 21, deputies responded to Salem Road in reference to a mailbox being damaged. While there, it was also noticed the stop sign at Vore Ridge and Salem had been run over. The county engineers were called to replace it and once they arrived on scene, a patrol of the area was conducted. At the intersection of Salem Road and Rhoric Road, the stop sign there had also been run over. Muddy tracks were followed and the vehicle was eventually located with a piece of red reflective tape from the stop sign still stuck to the bumper. The driver of the vehicle, Matthew Taylor, 21, was charged with two counts of criminal mischief.

* On Aug. 21, deputies made contact with William Burdett on Ohio 13 in Millfield. Burdett had two active warrants from Athens County and was then arrested without incident, and transported to the regional jail.

* On Aug. 21, deputies while performing a traffic stop on Ohio 56, New Marshfield, George Tolley, 33, New Marshfield, was arrested on an active warrant out of Athens County.

* On Aug. 21, deputies with the Athens County Interdiction Unit received information of suspicious activity near the cemetery on Haines Ridge in Athens. Upon arriving on the area, contact was made with a female who had an active warrant out of Athens County. After confirming her information, Sarah Clark, 27, of Athens, was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail without incident.

* On Aug. 22, deputies were called to Ohio 50, Albany, for a report of an attempted break-in of a vehicle.

On Aug. 23, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 22, deputies responded to a female soliciting money from customers at the Valero Station in The Plains. Management requested the female leave the property. After ID was acquired, the female was found to have a warrant against her. April Huml, aka April Cusic, 41, of Guysville was transported to municipal court on the warrant.

* On Aug. 22, deputies were dispatched to a possible drunk person walking along Ohio 13 in Chauncey with an open beer bottle. Deputy located the female who was found not intoxicated and carrying a bottle of pop.

* On Aug. 22, deputies were dispatched to a residence in regard to a man breaking into the residence and assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The woman had visible injuries. Nelsonville Police Department and deputies located the man in the woods near the residence where he was arrested. Derrick Lanning, 33, of Belpre was found to have an active warrant for his arrest out of West Virginia. Lanning was transported to the regional jail pending court. Lanning is charged with burglary, a felony of the first degree. Additional charges will be sent to the grand jury.

* On Aug. 22, deputies responded to the Mineral, Ohio 356 area, in reference to a domestic dispute. This case is active. No further details at this time.

* On Aug. 22, deputies responded to McDonald’s in The Plains in reference to an intoxicated male that was passed out in a vehicle. Deputies arrived on scene and attempted to wake the male. The male was identified as Robert Munger, 25 of New Marshfield, and was too intoxicated to take care of himself at this time. Munger was arrested and transported to the regional jail.

* On Aug. 22, deputies were called to Franklin Street, Butchel, for a theft report. Contact was made with the caller at that address where a no trespass form was completed for the suspect, and a written statement was completed by the caller.

* On Aug. 22, deputies received a report of several syringes lying along Lemaster Road in The Plains. Deputies located two syringes that appeared to be unused. The syringes were collected and will be destroyed once a court order is obtained.

Athens Sheriff

ATHENS – On Aug. 19, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports:

* On Aug. 18, the sheriff’s office was dispatched to Pedigo Ridge for a report of a vehicle stuck and the driver possibly being intoxicated. Upon arriving on scene, contact was made with the vehicle which had been driven off the roadway and was now stuck in the mud. Contact was also made with the driver who was found to be intoxicated. The Ohio State Highway Patrol also arrived on scene and arrested the driver for OVI. The vehicle was recovered by a sober family member.

* On Aug. 18, a female came into the sheriff’s office to file a theft report. The complainant stated that she had a company putting in new flooring and that some of her jewelry was stolen.

* On Aug. 18, the sheriff’s office was dispatched to Derthick Road for a report of an overdose. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with a female who stated she no longer wanted to live and had taken a number of prescription pills.

* On Aug. 18, a male dropped off a Guernsey County Public Notary seal at the sheriff’s office that he found while cleaning a bank. The seal was placed into evidence until contact could be made with Guernsey County to see if they would like to have the seal returned.

* On Aug. 18, the Glouster Police Department requested assistance with a combative male. Contact was made with the male who was ultimately taken into custody and transported to the hospital for an evaluation.

* On Aug. 18, the sheriff’s office responded to a residence in Athens Township to a report of breaking and entering and theft.

ATHENS?- On Aug. 16, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 15, deputies responded to Taylor Ridge Road for a theft from an automobile. The complainant stated he had left his truck unlocked that morning. While he was away someone took multiple items and a large amount of loose change from the vehicle. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

* On Aug. 15, the sheriff’s office took a theft report of a high-powered pellet gun.

* On Aug. 15, the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a domestic dispute in Athens Township. Deputies spoke with one involved party as the other had fled the scene. The party that remained on scene had visible injuries.

ATHENS?- On Aug. 15, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 12, deputies were dispatched to Mound Street in Chauncey for a report of a car attempting to run someone over.

* On Aug. 12, deputies were called to Ohio 356, New Marshfield, for an incident report. The caller advised that a company that was moving a mobile home had stopped and asked if they could move her mailbox so that they could make the turn from the side street. The caller was concerned that her mail would not be delivered since the mailboxes were not put back where they were. Deputies were able to put the mailbox back in its original position and the caller was advised that she would need to contact the company about replacing the newspaper box.

* On Aug. 13, deputies responded to a complaint of theft in Athens Twp.

* On Aug. 13, deputies responded to the Buchtel Marathon Food Mart for a harassment/trespass complaint. A woman had been in the store, started a verbal altercation with staff members, and initially refused to leave the premises. The store manager requested a trespass complaint be filed. The woman had returned to her house prior to deputies arrival. Upon making contact with the woman, it was discovered that she had an active warrant out of Athens County for traffic offenses. Katie Wendell, 28, of Buchtel, was then taken into custody and transported to the regional jail without incident.

* On Aug. 13, deputies received a call from Bassett House about a runaway juvenile. It was reported the juvenile was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, black pants, black Converse shoes, and was seen crossing over the roadway on Bassett Road onto private property. Deputies patrolled the area with no contact. Maverick Sheridan, 17, of Jacksonville was then entered into National Crime Information Center as a missing case pending further investigation.

* On Aug. 14, deputies were dispatched to the Little General Store in Albany for an activated alarm.While en-route, contact was made with an employee who advised there was a female in the store stealing items from the store. Upon arriving on scene, contact was made with Taylor Gwinn who was found to be in possession of several store items that she had hidden in her bag. After confirming her information deputies were advised that Gwinn had an active warrant out of Athens County. During a search of Gwinn, she was also found to be in possession of several pills that were not in a prescription bottle. Taylor Gwinn, 22, of Athens, was arrested pursuant to the active warrant and transported to the regional jail. Additional charges are pending.

* On Aug. 14, at 5:06 a.m., deputies responded to Trimble Twp. in reference to an assault.

* On Aug. 14, deputies were called to West Bailey Road in Nelsonville for a report of domestic violence. The caller advised that her father was assaulted and was threatened with a knife by his live-in girlfriend. Deedra Carver, 54 ,of Nelsonville, was arrested and charged with domestic violence. Carver was transported to the regional jail without further incident.

* On Aug. 15, the sheriff’s office located an abandoned vehicle sitting partially in the roadway on Circle 33. The vehicle had been in an accident the day prior, and appeared to be abandoned.

Athens Sheriff

ATHENS – On Aug. 11, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* At 7:05 a.m. Aug. 10, the sheriff’s office received a report of an intoxicated man walking in the middle of Ohio 682 near Marathon in Chauncey. Deputies located him on Converse Street and identified him as Joshua Burchfield, 43, of The Plains. He was found to be highly intoxicated. He was then placed under arrest for disorderly conduct by intoxication and transported to the regional jail.

* On Aug. 10, deputies were called to Ohio 356 for a dispute. Deputies determined the father and daughter had been in an altercation. Sam Brooks Sr., 54, of Mineral Wells was charged with domestic violence and transported to the regional jail without further incident. While deputies were on scene another man, Ryan P. McGinnis, 30, of Athens was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct by intoxication and transported to the regional jail.

ATHENS – On Aug. 12, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 11, a female came to the sheriff’s office in reference to a report of threats and harassment. She reported that a male from Washington Court House would continuously call and text her, and in one case threatened that if she came back to Washington Court House he would have someone assault her. Both parties were advised to not have any contact with each other.

* On Aug. 11, deputies were dispatched to Hockingport for a report of a fight in progress. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with both parties. EMS came to the scene for minor injuries. Statements were collected from both sides and the parties were separated for the evening.

* On Aug. 11, a female came to the sheriff’s office to report domestic violence. She reported a verbal altercation turned physical on Grand Street in Hockingport. Deputies made contact with the suspect Virgil E. Parsons at a later time and made an arrest for domestic violence. Parsons was transported to the regional jail.

* On Aug. 11, deputies initiated a traffic stop on Four Mile Creek Road in Coolville with a truck with no tail lights and no registration. Upon contact it was found the driver may have been operating a vehicle under the influence and Highway Patrol was requested. Patrol performed field sobriety tests and the subject was arrested for OVI.

* On Aug. 11, deputies were called to Mineral Road for a report of a breaking and entering. A report was taken and pictures of the damage that was done to the buildings were collected. The property owners advised that nothing had been taken. Deputies returned to patrol.

Athens Sheriff

ATHENS – On Aug. 5, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 4, the sheriff’s office responded to South Plains Road in The Plains for a report of a stolen title to a vehicle. The complainant advised she had been away from her apartment for the day and realized that her title was stolen from a secret hiding place. She advised the crime was committed the day before the report and eventually found the title to be missing. At this time, there were no suspects or witnesses to the event. This case was considered closed pending any further information that may be discovered after speaking with some persons of interest regarding this issue.

* On Aug. 4, deputies were called to Lottridge Road for a dispute there. The caller advised that the other females in the household were harassing her and making jokes. No threats of violence or physical violence were reported and parties advised that they would be civil for the remainder of the evening.

* On Aug. 4, the sheriff’s office responded to the Null Road in the Coolville area in reference to subjects in a vehicle that supposedly attempted to hit the complainant. This call was also stemming over property involved in a civil matter. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the complainant and her witnesses, as well as the suspect and their witnesses. Statements were obtained from all parties. The case is under investigation. The original complainant, Samantha Haught, 34, of Coolville, had an active warrant for her arrest through Pomeroy PD. She was taken into custody by Pomeroy PD.

* On Aug. 4, deputies were called to Becky’s Tantique in The Plains for a female arguing about money. The female was arguing with the owner about how much she would be paying that day toward her bill. The female made her payment and left promising to contact the owner soon about paying the rest of the money owed. The owner was advised of legal action that can be taken in order to assist her with getting her money.

* On Aug. 4, a report of threats was received by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office and upon further investigation deputies were able to make contact with the suspect and speak with her directly. This matter remains under investigation by the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.

* On Aug. 4, deputies were called to Baker Street, Coolville, for a drug overdose. EMS arrived on scene just prior to deputies arriving and transported the patient to the hospital. Deputies collected some evidence from the area where the female was located which will be sent off for chemical identification. This matter remains under investigation.

Athens Sheriff

ATHENS – The Athens County Sheriff’s Department released the following reports on Aug. 4:

* The Athens County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday to United Lane in Athens for a drug call. Fruth Pharmacy advised it found a used syringe behind its dumpster and requested removal of that syringe. Deputies collected and requested it for destruction.

* A Kilvert male called Wednesday in reporting that his neighbor had put property on his land. The area of property is currently disputed and the caller was advised to contact a surveyor or the Athens County auditor to determine the actual property line.

* The ACSO received a complaint Wednesday of a theft from a residence in The Plains. A gold color BMX bicycle was stolen from the residence during the night. The bicycle was a United Supreme 20.25 Trans Gold BMX valued at $500 that was purchased from hard work and savings of the juvenile it was stolen from. If you have any knowledge of this crime or the whereabouts of this bicycle contact the ACSO.

* The ACSO was dispatched Wednesday to the Harper Street area in The Plains in reference to a complaint of threats and harassment. Deputies made contact with both subjects and advised both to cease any further contact with each other, otherwise charges would be pursued.

* Athens County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Wednesday to Millfield for a report of a dispute. Upon arrival, deputies spoke to one of the involved parties who stated that the dispute was verbal and that no physical violence had occurred. Parties were advised to remain separated for the evening.

* The ACSO attempted to serve an arrest warrant Wednesday on an individual in Troy Township. The warrant was issued from Belpre Police Department. Deputies checked the residence but did not locate the suspect.

* The ACSO responded Wednesday to a verbal dispute in Lottridge. Deputies spoke with the involved parties and ascertained that no threats of violence had occurred. All parties were advised to limit their contact and attempt to be civil with each other.

* Sheriff’s deputies were advised Wednesday night of a patrol request in York Twp. Area was patrolled and if possible units will get back to the area again later in shift.

* The Athens County Sheriff’s Office was requested Wednesday to do extra patrol in the Mill Street area in Albany. Deputies patrolled the area with negative contact.

* Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Wednesday to Fifth Street in The Plains in reference to a possible prowler looking in the windows of the caller’s residence. Upon arriving on scene deputies searched the surrounding area with negative contact.

* The Athens County Sheriff’s Office was requested Thursday to attempt to locate a female for the Logan Police Department. Information was obtained and passed on to the requesting officer.

* The contact was made Thursday with a vehicle parked behind the Guysville Marathon after business hours. The driver advised he had permission from an employee to sleep there. No criminal activity was observed.

Athens Sheriff

ATHENS – On Aug. 3, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 2, a resident of Monroe Street in Chauncey reported upon leaving his residence for work, he found that someone had forcefully entered his garage stealing a leaf blower, a saw and miscellaneous tools.

* On Aug. 2, deputies responded to a Plains residence for a burglary report. The matter is under further investigation.

* On Aug. 2, deputies responded to Main Street in Coolville for a trespass complaint and property dispute. Deputies met with the complainant who stated a co-worker came to his house and removed tools from his truck while he was not at home. The ownership of the tools was deemed a civil matter through their workplace; however, a trespass complaint was requested by the complainant. A written trespass complaint was then issued to the other involved party without incident.

Athens Sheriff

MARIETTA?- On Aug. 2, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports.

* On Aug. 1, deputies responded to a Lemaster Road address near The Plains for a report of an assault. On scene, deputies were met by the complainant who stated she worked for a home health company. She advised deputies that a patient who resided at the residence assaulted one of her staff members with a shoe. Staff on scene also stated the involved individual had made threats to burn down his house and possibly injure others. With the person’s ongoing medical and mental issues, deputies determined the man would benefit from an immediate mental health evaluation. Deputies then transported him to the hospital for a medical and mental evaluation.

* On Aug. 2, the sheriff’s office responded to the “Spice of Life” in The Plains in reference to a burglary. It appears the cash register and food items were taken. Evidence has been collected and will be sent to BCI for testing. This case remains under investigation.
