Wood Magistrate

PARKERSBURG — The following cases were heard in Wood County Magistrate Court on Tuesday.

* Ali Muhammad-Saif Al-Madrahi, 30, 5045 Sobieski St., Hamtramck, Mich., and Ismail Kaid Al-Madrahi, 33, 11974 Moenart St., Detroit, were arraigned before Wood County Magistrate Robin Waters Tuesday on a charge of possession with intent to deliver cathinone.

Both defendants were arrested after Wood County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on Interstate 77, according to the criminal complaint. The vehicle pulled into the Marathon Station at Route 95 and I-77. The criminal complaint said the occupants of the van were nervous and their voices were shaky.

After deputies spoke with the two occupants of the van, their stories did not match as to where they were going on their trip, the criminal complaint said. During the stop, a K9 from Parkersburg Police Department was called to the scene to do a “free air sniff” search of the vehicle. The K9 positively indicated on the vehicle so a search was made inside the van, officials said.

Agents from the Parkersburg Violent Crimes and Narcotics Task Force assisted in the search and located two bags of suspected Khat in cabinets in the rear passenger area of the van, the complaint states. Khat is a leafy green substance that contains cathinone, a schedule 1 controlled substance, and cathine, a schedule IV controlled substance. The Khat weighed approximately 4 pounds and 8 ounces, officials said. Each defendant was being held at the North Central Regional Jail on a $300,000 surety bond.
