ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Sept. 12:

* A report of a breaking and entering at a gas well depot site on River Road in Guysville was received. Both perimeter gates were left open, and most of the valuable items were stolen. A used cigarette was recovered from the location, and several photographs were taken of the crime scene. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office non-emergency phone number, 740-593-6633.

* A Jacksonville Road resident in Millfield reported her ex-husband was harassing her over her living arraignments. The matter was deemed civil, and a report was completed.

* Units responded to Alderman Road in Millfield for a report of a dispute between a husband and wife. Deputies determined the dispute was regarding a lawn mower. Both parties were advised to stay away from each other for a few hours and warned that if deputies had to return to the residence, persistent disorderly charges would be filed.

* Deputies responded to Converse Street in Chauncey for a report of a male inside the complainant’s vehicle. Deputies contacted the male who claimed the vehicle was his sister’s. The complainant wished for a trespass complaint to be served to the male.

* Deputies responded to Bassett Road for a theft report. The victim advised that multiple items were stolen from his locked garage. This case is under further investigation.

* Units responded to Baker Road for a third-party report of a domestic dispute. Deputies arrived and could hear yelling inside the residence. Deputies made contact with a male who admitted that he hit his girlfriend. Derek Mathena, 29, of Athens, was arrested on a charge of domestic violence and taken to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

* An inactive theft report was received from a Lemaster Road resident. The complainant advised that fishing equipment was stolen from his porch.

* Units responded to Sand Rock Road in Amesville for a reported drug overdose. Deputies arrived on scene with Athens County EMS. It was undetermined if it was a drug overdose or medical issue. Athens County EMS transported the individual to O’Bleness Hospital for an evaluation.

ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Sept. 16 on incidents that occurred Sept. 13-15

* The Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on Johnson Road for moving and equipment violations. Deputies observed criminal behaviors including suspected tampering with evidence. An item occupants attempted to hide from deputies was turned over, and suspected methamphetamine was found inside. Deputies searched the vehicle and recovered additional items associated with the use of methamphetamine and heroin. These items were seized as evidence to be sent to a lab for testing. Additional charges are expected pending lab results.

* Deputies were dispatched to a Bean Hollow Road residence on a breaking and entering report. The investigation is pending.

* Deputies responded to Ohio 329 in Stewart for a report of a suspicious person. Deputies patrolled the area and were unsuccessful in locating the person.

* Deputies on patrol in The Plains observed a domestic dispute in a vehicle. Following a traffic stop at Valero gas in The Plains, deputies spoke with both parties who stated that they were in a verbal argument. Both individuals were driving under suspension. A valid driver was called to come and take possession of the vehicle. Both parties did not wish to pursue any criminal charges.

* Deputies responded to Ohio 13 in Millfield for a report of a suspicious vehicle, but were unsuccessful in locating it.

* Deputies responded to Sycamore Street in Chauncey for a report of suspicious person. The person could not be located.

* Deputies received multiple reports of an intoxicated male in Chauncey going through yards and shouting at people. Deputies made contact with the subject after he was found trespassing in a caller’s garage. Tyler R. Brown was then placed into custody and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on a charge of public intoxication. Additional charges for criminal trespass are pending.

* Deputies responded to Athens Township for a domestic dispute. The caller advised she and her boyfriend were intoxicated and fighting. On scene, parties were already separated. Neither half had any visible injuries, nor were any criminal charges being pursued. A taxi was contacted, and both parties agreed to remain separated for the remainder of the evening.

* Deputies responded to Oxley Road, Athens for a report of a protection order violation. The caller stated her son was talking out of his head and threatening her and the other individuals in the home. She said she has a protection order against her son, Kyle Thomas but he resides with her. Deputies located Kyle outside the home and placed him under arrest for protection order violation, then took him to the regional jail without issue.

* Deputies were dispatched to High Street, Glouster, on a report of someone yelling for help. Upon arriving on scene, EMS personnel located the individual, who needed medical attention. The individual was transported to the hospital.

* Deputies were dispatched to Poston Road on a report of a vehicle on the side of the road with the drivers door open. Dispatch advised the caller could not tell if anyone was in the vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle, which was unoccupied, and tagged it for removal.

* Deputies responded to Hawks Road, New Marshfield, for a report of a domestic dispute between a father and son. It was determined to be a mutual combat situation, and no charges are going to be filed.

* Deputies were advised of a shoplifter at The Dollar General in The Plains. Deputies arrived on scene and detained suspect Amanda Ziegler, who advised the clothes she was wearing on her person were items she had stolen from the store. Deputies located drug paraphernalia in the vehicle in which Ziegler and James Yancey came to the store. It was collected to be sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing. Zeigler was charged with theft and taken to the regional jail.

* Deputies took a report by phone in which the complainant stated someone had stolen his son’s medicine within the last few days. The complainant said he does not know who could have does this and only wished for the incident to be documented.

* Deputies took a walk-in complaint of threats and harassment, in which a man advised that his roommates’ father had been making threats to him whenever he saw him. The complainant wished to make a statement to document the events should additional action be needed if the behavior did not stop.

* Deputies responded to Ellis Avenue in Chauncey for a report of theft. The complainant said his bike was stolen at a residence on Matheny Road in Nelsonville. This case remains under investigation.

* Deputies responded to The Plains for a theft report. The complainant stated their vehicle had been left in a parking lot for multiple days and when they returned, someone had broken out a side window and taken multiple items. A report was filed.

* Deputies received a report of a bicycle stolen off a porch in The Plains. Deputies located the bicycle, but a suspect was not able to be identified. The bike was then retrieved by its owner.

* Deputies responded to Dollar General in The Plains for a trespass complaint. An employee had called due to a woman refusing to leave the store. Employees requested that no formal action be taken, but that the woman to be made aware that she was not welcome back at the store. Deputies spoke to the woman, who advised she would leave and not return.

* Deputies responded to New Marshfield for a theft report. The caller advised that they were walking along the roadway when a motorist stopped and took off with their belongings. A suspect was identified, and the incident is under further review.

* Deputies responded to The Plains for a neighbor dispute. The caller advised that a neighbor was riding their motorcycle too fast, and they had confronted them. A dispute then ensued. The incident is under further review pending contact with the other neighbor.

* Deputies responded to Athens Township in reference to an active assault complaint. Contact was made with the suspect, who was bleeding from his feet and arms/hands. Contact was then made with the complainant and victim in the residence. Both had visible physical injuries consistent with their account of being assaulted. The suspect, whose name was not included in the release, was arrested and transported to O’Bleness Hospital for injuries.

* Deputies took a report of theft in The Plains in reference to two bicycles being stolen. The victim wanted to have a report on file and gave deputies a description of the bicycles.

* Deputies took a report of a theft of a Samsung Galaxy tablet. Information identifying the device was collected, but the locator on the tablet was not functioning. The deputy attempted to contact a possible suspect, but she was not home.

* Deputies responded to The Plains, where a caller advised she wanted her son to leave her residence. He was advised to leave.

* Deputies received a report of a storage unit in The Plains being entered. No items appeared to be missing. The matter is under investigation.

ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Sept. 17:

Sept. 16

* The Criminal Interdiction Unit and the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team executed a search warrant at 10 Downing St. in The PLains as the result of a lengthy drug investigation. Several items, including suspected narcotics and drug abuse instruments, were located and sent to a lab for testing. Charges have been requested through the Athens County Grand Jury for aggravated possession of drugs, possessing criminal tools, possession of drug paraphernalia and permitting drug abuse. The incident occurred with 1,000 feet of Athens Elementary School, which will elevate the related charges.

* The owner of a vehicle that had broken down along U.S. 33 near the Peach Ridge overpass reported someone stole its tags. The tags have been entered as stolen.

* Deputies responded to The Plains to assist the fire department with a female that was stuck under a couch in her storage unit. The female was located, removed from the storage unit and medically cleared by Athens County Emergency Medical Services.

* Deputies responded to Lexington Avenue in Chauncey for a report of an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The complainant stated he initially allowed the suspect to use his vehicle to go to a funeral earlier in the day but the vehicle had not been returned at the time of the report. The vehicle information was taken, and a be-on-the-lookout alert was issued. The case is under further investigation.

ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Sept. 18:

* Deputies were called to Marathon in Albany for an incident report. The caller discovered a small tin that was open and contained a small amount of marijuana. The tin was placed into evidence and set for destruction.

* Deputies were dispatched to a Glouster residence in regard to a suicidal female. While they were on scene, dispatch received a call from the Athens Police Department, who advised that the female was located and with a counselor.

* Deputies responded to Buchtel to recover suspected drug paraphernalia after the complainant advised he had found an old syringe. The item was collected for destruction. The complainant also reported items were possibly being tampered with on his property. He advised he would review security footage and request additional assistance if any further action was needed.

* A female reported she believes she was the victim of a scam and sent an unknown company money. She was given advice on how to handle the situation in the future.

* Deputies responded to Connett Road in The Plains for a possible breaking and entering. The caller advised they could see a male subject trying to get into a vacant trailer. The suspect then left the area. Deputies checked the residence and found it to be secured. Entry did not appear to have been made.

* Deputies responded to The Plains for a suspicious male walking onto people’s property. Contact was made and the male advised that he was looking for work. During the interaction, no criminal indicators were observed. The male was released from the scene.

ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Sept. 19:

Sept. 18

* A unit responded to a business in The Plains in reference to an ex-employee causing problems. After speaking to all the involved parties, the suspect was told not to return or he would be arrested.

* Deputies responded to Trimble for a report of telecommunications harassment. The caller stated she had been getting texts from an unknown subject out of state asking her for her name. She believed it was possibly a scam. The complainant advised she had not given out any personal information. She said she would block the number and report if she had any other issues.

* Deputies responded to Chauncey for a male that was having medical issues. Athens County Emergency Medical Services transported the patient.

* A caller reported being harassed by her son’s ex-girlfriend, receiving multiple phones calls asking what her son is doing. Contact was made with the suspect, who denied the allegations but said she would not call her again.

* Deputies responded to Coolville where a caller advised that while he was at work it appeared a vehicle left the roadway and struck his vehicle in his driveway. The damage was documented. At this time, there are no witnesses to the incident.

* Deputies responded to Salem Road where the caller advised she was driving and saw people staying in a tent. She requested a well-being check. Contact was made with a male who advised they were okay.

ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports Sept. 20:

Sept. 19

* The sheriff’s office assisted the Athens Conservancy Group regarding squatters on a campground near Strouds Run State Park. The tents were located and found to be abandoned. Eviction notices were left on the tents by the Athens Conservancy Group, which removed one tent.

* Deputies were dispatched to a Goose Run Road residence on a complaint of harassment and trespassing. A male subject was served with a trespass complaint and advised to leave the property.

* A deputy handled a phone harassment call over the phone. The party making the unwanted calls was contacted and told not to contact the complainant or her family without getting court-ordered visitation.

* Deputies were dispatched to a Valley Street, Trimble, residence on a report of a male making suicidal threats and a suicide attempt. The male who was transported to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital for medical treatment and an evaluation.

* Deputies responded to The Plains for a report of a suicidal male. Deputies transported him to O’Bleness Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

* The sheriff’s office was contacted by a female who advised she wanted a family member to stop calling and texting her. The male gave a conflicting statement via telephone. Both parties were advised to not have contact with each other.
