MARIETTA – The Marietta Fire Department responded to a house fire at 613 Tupper St. shortly after 7 a.m. today.

According to fire Chief C.W. Durham, the fire started on the first floor of the house and quickly spread.

“There were four occupants at home at the time of the fire, and we were able to get all four out and transported to the hospital,” he said. “One adult and three children were transported.” Durham said the condition and information of the individuals could not be released at this time.

He said there are two investigators from the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s office on the scene and looking into how the fire started.

Jacki Richey lives three houses down from where the fire occurred and said she noticed flames around 7 a.m.

“Once I noticed the flames were coming from the house the fire department arrived shortly after and they put it out in less than half an hour,” said Richey.

Richey said there were around four ambulances and a couple of police cars and fire trucks that blocked both ends of the street.

“I saw the fireman carrying a baby in his arms,” she said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and there is no more information from fire officials at this time.
