PARKERSBURG — A teacher in Wetzel County Schools will fill the vacancy in the 8th District in the West Virginia House of Delegates.

William “Bill” Bell on Monday was appointed by Gov. Pat Morrisey to fill the vacancy caused when David Kelly became commissioner of the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Kelly, who served in the House since 2018, was appointed in June by the governor.

The 8th District is composed of Doddridge, Tyler and Wetzel counties.

Bell teaches social studies and is an adjunct faculty member at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

He is on the Paden City Common Council and is the council representative to the Paden City Development Authority. Bell has a bachelor’s in elementary education from WVUP and a master’s from Western Governors University and Ashland University.

“Bill Bell has shown himself to be a leader in his community, serving on the Paden City Common Council,” Morrisey said. “I am confident he will be a dedicated public servant and a conservative fighter for the people of Doddridge, Tyler, and Wetzel counties.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
