PARKERSBURG — Despite apparently being on a list of leases terminated by the federal Department of Government Efficiency, the Internal Revenue Service’s Taxpayer Assistance Center in Parkersburg remained open Tuesday.

The “Wall of Receipts” on doge.gov/savings lists 793 federal lease terminations totaling “10,088,353 square feet and (approximately) $500M in lease savings.”

Among those listed is the “Internal Revenue Service National Office” in Parkersburg, with 7,671 square feet.

Clicking on the entry shows an annual lease amount of $184,015, and $306,092 in total savings.

The entry does not specify the address for the facility, but the only IRS office listed in Parkersburg is at 700 Market St. in the former Highmark West Virginia headquarters at the Union Trust Building. That location was open Tuesday morning and was listed as open and having extended tax season hours on the IRS website.

A message seeking more information about the lease termination from the press office of the U.S. Treasury Department, which includes the IRS, was not returned Tuesday. A representative of Siltstone Resources, which owns the building, said Tuesday he did not have any information about the situation.

Starting at $2.99/week.
