WAVERLY — Four local volunteer fire departments responded to a structure fire in the Waverly area early Thursday morning.

Waverly Volunteer Fire Chief Dennis McAtee said the fire was reported about 2:11 a.m. Thursday at a single-story residence at 252 Cooper Ridge Road.

The four responding departments were Waverly, Williamstown, Vienna and Deerwalk, while Belmont covered Waverly’s station, he said.

McAtee said the structure fire was fully involved when units arrived on the scene and due to high winds and dry conditions, embers from the fire had been blown across the roadway to cause a brush fire which the units also fought.

The residence was a rental property owned by Jeff Brookover and all occupants were out, with no injuries reported when firefighters arrived, McAtee said. The Red Cross was called in to provide assistance.

The cause was undetermined and remained under investigation Thursday afternoon by the Wood County Fire Investigation Team, he said. A damage estimate was not available.

McAtee said it took about 30 minutes to have both the residential and brush fires under control. The VFD units were back on station by 6 a.m. Thursday.

Starting at $2.99/week.
