PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg City Council will hold its first meeting of 2025 on Tuesday when a president and vice president will be selected.

Also on the agenda are the nominations by Mayor Tom Joyce for city attorney, municipal judge, development director and personnel director.

The council organizational meeting is at 7:30 p.m. in its chambers in the municipal building.

Joyce, elected to a third term in November, has nominated C. Blaine Myers as city attorney, Jessica Myers as judge of the municipal court, Ryan Barber as development director and Jennifer Schoenhut as personnel director. The nominees currently serve in those capacities in the Joyce administration.

Blaine Myers was first appointed city attorney in 2021. Previously serving as city attorney under the administrations of Pat Pappas and Gene Knotts, Myers succeeded Joe Santer, who retired in 2021.

Jessica Myers, C. Blaine Myers’ daughter, was approved by city council in October to serve the remainder of the year after Debra L. Steed was appointed a family court judge in October by the governor.

Barber was the special projects coordinator for the city and was nominated to be development director in April 2021 after Rickie Yeager went to Morgantown to be director of development services. Barber has worked for the city since 2015.

Schoenhut started with the city in 2019 and was appointed interim personnel director in February 2024 after the retirement of Sondra Wallace. Schoenhut was confirmed in April by city council.

The current president of city council is Mike Reynolds. The vice president was J.R. Carpenter, who lost re-election to council in November.

Only the department head confirmations and election of president and vice president are on the agenda. The next regular meetings of city council in January are 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14 and Jan. 28.

Starting at $2.99/week.
