Lick Fork Bridge closed in Roane County as damage is assessed
CHARLESTON — A bridge in a remote section of Roane County is closed after an overweight tow truck broke through a section of the bridge deck.
The bridge, on Roane County Route 26, Lick Fork Road, was closed Monday. Joe Pack, P.E., West Virginia Division of Highways Chief Engineer of Operations, said the bridge has a low traffic count and is primarily used by all-terrain vehicles.
Pack said damage to the bridge is still being assessed. Once the extent of the damage is determined, WVDOH bridge engineers will determine if the bridge can be repaired or if replacement is in order.
Motorists can detour around the bridge using Missouri Fork Road or Harmony Road.
The WVDOH will release further information as it becomes available.
