Commissioners accept roofing bids
PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Commission accepted three bids Monday to replace the roof at the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department at 211 Sixth St. in Parkersburg.
Wood County Maintenance Supervisor Todd Nonamaker told commissioners the roof was in poor condition and recent heavy rains caused leaks.
The bids were $91,116.00 from Murray Sheet Metal of Parkersburg with an additional cost of $2,439 figured for sand, primer/paint and chimney caps; $88,400.00 from Sutter Roofing in Clarksburg; and $141,610.00 from Tri-State Roofing in Davisville.
The commission agreed to take the bids under advisement and have them reviewed by Nonamaker and County Administrator Marty Seufer, who will make a recommendation to the commission.
“There is no doubt, we need a new roof there,” Commissioner Jimmy Colombo said.
“We have a series of leaks that have become difficult to manage,” Commission President Blair Couch said.
The roof has been patched with the patches being patched and some of those areas are now causing problems, Colombo said. It has been around 25 years since the roof was replaced, Couch said.
The roof is a rubber membrane fiberglass reinforced tar roof, which has dried, exposing the fiberglass in several areas, Nonamaker said. He is proposing to replace it with a similar type of roof.
Officials are looking to replace the whole roof. The county owns the building and handles major maintenance issues.
Officials wanted to see contributions from the other counties and municipalities served by the health department to go toward the new roof and possibly a new location in the future.
The health department serves Calhoun, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Wirt and Wood counties.
In other business, the commission announced a vacancy on the board of the Mineral Wells Public Service District. The position is held by Bernard Cothern and officials said they will see if Cothern wants to continue to serve.
