Belpre juvenile shot Saturday afternoon remains in ICU

BELPRE — Belpre Police were dispatched to a possible shooting on Florence Street around 2 p.m. Saturday.

The officers who arrived on scene found a 17-year-old male who had been shot in the abdomen, said Belpre Chief of Police Terry Williams. The victim was then transported to WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center and eventually Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. The victim is still in the ICU at this time, said Williams.

The investigation revealed a robbery of a firearm at the victim’s home went bad, and led to the victim being shot, said Williams.

There were three suspects total, said Williams. One has been charged in connection to the robbery. The second is still in the hospital due to a single-vehicle wreck on the 5000 block of Old St Marys Pike in Parkersburg. There are warrants out for that person’s arrest and he or she will be charged after being released from the hospital. The third suspect has been identified, a warrant is out for arrest, but the suspect has not been located at the time of reporting.

Wood County Sheriff Rick Woodyard said the wreck on the 5000 block of Old St Marys Pike, that had a connection to the robbery, occurred around 3 p.m. Saturday, and was due to one of the suspects driving under the influence. More information was unavailable at the time of reporting.

The names of the individuals have not been released at this time, but will be released as soon as possible, said Williams.
