Marietta City Schools planned to interview four superintendent hopefuls
MARIETTA — The Marietta City Schools Board of Education was scheduled to interview four candidates for the district’s superintendent position Wednesday evening.
There were 15 applicants for the job being vacated by Superintendent Will Hampton.
After seven years at the helm of Marietta City Schools, he will take over as superintendent of Alexander Local Schools in Athens County on Aug. 1.
The names of the candidates, including those interviewed Wednesday, were not being released “out of respect for their current employment,” said Janelle Patterson, director of media and communication for the district.
No decision was expected Wednesday. If the board wants to select one of the four interviewed, a vote would be announced for an upcoming regular or special meeting, Patterson said.
If the board decides to conduct additional interviews, those are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, July 7.
Patterson said the district wanted to thank the more than 400 students, staff and other stakeholders who provided their input on what qualities they wanted to see in the next superintendent through public focus groups and online surveys, a process led by Ohio School Boards Association consultant Teri Morgan.
