Woman dies in Belpre Township auto accident

MARIETTA — One person was killed in a two-car crash in Belpre Township late Wednesday night, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Marietta Post said.

The accident happened shortly before 9 p.m. at Ohio 618 and Ohio 339 in Belpre Township, the patrol said.

A preliminary investigation revealed a 2016 Toyota RAV4 driven by Joyce Strohl, 69, of Morgan County, was southbound on Route 339, the patrol said. A 1998 Buick Century driven by Ashtyn Davis, 22, was westbound on Route 618.

Strohl failed to yield at a stop sign on Route 339 at Route 618 and was struck by Davis, the patrol said.

Both drivers were taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital, Belpre Campus. Strohl sustained fatal injuries from the crash while Davis sustained non-life threating injuries, the patrol said.

Alcohol is not a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

The Highway Patrol was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Little Hocking Volunteer Fire Department and EMS.
