PARKERSBURG — Under picture perfect weather, the Kootaga District Cub Scouts hosted a fishing derby at City Park on Saturday afternoon.

More than 20 Cub Scouts participated in the derby, competing for a numerous amount of rewards. From the largest fish caught, the most number of fish caught and even the smallest fish caught.

According to District Director Michael Cidor, the purpose of the derby was to get scouts out and once again participate in outdoor activities after COVID forced the group to have their events virtually.

“We’re just getting out here to get the kids involved in some outdoor activities. We thought, we’re getting back to scouting. So one of the ways to do that is to get the kids out fishing and trying to have a fun thing so we decided to do a fishing derby,” Cidor said. “We’ve got a couple of nice fish that have been caught, we’ve got a couple of kids that have caught a lot of fish. We’ve also got some other prizes and fun things for the kids to take home with them for just being part of the day and having fun.”

Cidor that the scouts will be having some family camps events coming up during the summer, focusing on doing short weekend family activities.
