West Virginia reports a day with no COVID-19 deaths

CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported no additional COVID-19 fatalities in the 24-hour period from Sunday to Monday morning.

The number of fatalities statewide since the pandemic began stands at 2,821.

Active cases in local counties (previous day) are: Calhoun, 13 (12); Doddridge, 14 (16); Gilmer, 5 (6); Jackson, 72 (64); Pleasants, 20 (21); Ritchie, 18 (19); Roane, 26 (24); Tyler, 18 (18); Wetzel, 104 (104); Wirt, 8 (7); Wood, 106 (105).

Wetzel County remained orange on the state’s county alert system, indicating the second-highest level of spread of the virus. Jackson County had moved into the middle category of gold, while Pleasants and Wirt remained in yellow, the second-lowest. The rest of the counties in the area were at green, the lowest level.

Berkeley and Raleigh were the only counties in the state classified as red.

According to Monday’s update, 556,785 West Virginians have been fully vaccinated. There were 700,260 residents who have received at least one dose.

The number of people fully vaccinated in local counties and the percentage of the population are: Calhoun, 1,492, 21; Doddridge, 3,148, 37.3; Gilmer, 1,835, 23.5; Jackson, 8,299, 29; Pleasants, 2,177, 29.2; Ritchie, 2,546, 26.6; Roane, 3,638, 26.6; Tyler, 2,113, 24.6; Wetzel, 4,804, 31.9; Wirt, 1,324, 22.7; Wood, 22,202, 26.6.

Residents 16 and older can pre-register for vaccinations online at vaccinate.wv.gov or call 833-734-0965. Some clinics are accepting walk-ins or offering other registration methods. Residents should check with those providers for additional information.
