River Cities Symphony Orchestra slates 2 virtual performances
From staff reports
PARKERSBURG — The River Cities Symphony Orchestra will close out its fall season with a pair of virtual performances, including a Christmas treat.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, award-winning concert pianist Yuliya Gorenman will perform a challenging repertoire on Facebook Live, www.facebook.com/rivercitiessymphony. It will include Schubert Impromptu op. 90 in G flat major; “Bach Prelude and Fugue” from “The Well-Tempered Clavier;” Mozart’s “Fantasy in D minor,” Chopin’s Waltz in C sharp minor, op. 64; Scriabin’s Prelude and Nocturne for the Left Hand, op.9; and Rachmaninoff’s Prelude in C minor, op. 23.
At 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, the orchestra will present “Classical Christmas Songs” with soprano Tiffany CasaSante and pianist Jane Irvine. CasaSante, who has performed before audiences from Carnegie Hall to the People Bank Theatre, will sing standards such as “O Holy Night” and “Gesu Bambino.” She is dedicating the performance to the memory of her mother, who especially loved the holiday season.
“In a difficult year, in which traditional live Christmas performances won’t be possible, the RCSO is thrilled to be able to provide a safe and comforting alternative,” orchestra board President Mac Lichterman said in a release.
