West Virginia reports 8 more COVID-19 deaths

CHARLESTON — Eight COVID-19-related deaths were reported by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources on Tuesday, bringing the statewide total during the pandemic to 432.

In its daily update on the novel coronavirus, DHHR announced the deaths of an 89-year-old man and two women, ages 83 and 79, from Cabell County; a 79-year-old male from Upshur County; a 57-year-old male from Kanawha County; an 83-year-old male from Fayette County; an 87-year-old female from Jefferson County, and a 54-year-old male from Raleigh County.

“As we continue the fight against this pandemic, we are devastated by the loss of more West Virginians,” DHHR Cabinet Secretary Bill J. Crouch said. “The families of these residents are in our thoughts.”

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, there have been 742,191 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 22,706 total cases. The online COVID-19 dashboard, at www.coronavirus.wv.gov, listed 4,428 active cases.

Cases reported for local counties were: 35 in Calhoun , 70 in Doddridge, 64 in Gilmer, 385 in Jackson, 27 in Pleasants, 36 in Ritchie, 106 in Roane, 32 in Tyler, 173 in Wetzel, 51 in Wirt, and 580 in Wood.

The state totals include both confirmed and probable cases. For example, in Wood County, there have been 519 confirmed cases and 61 probables, for a total of 580.

Testing for everyone, including asymptomatic individuals, is available today in the following locations:

∫ Doddridge County, 2-4 p.m. — Ritchie Regional Health Center, West Union Location, 190 Marie St., West Union.

∫ Ritchie County, 2-4 p.m. — Ritchie Regional Health Center, 135 South Penn Ave., Harrisville.

∫ Roane County, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Roane County Family Health Care, 146 Williams Drive, Spencer (flu shots offered).

∫ Wetzel County, noon to 4 p.m. — Wetzel-Tyler Health Department, 425 South Fourth Ave., Paden City (parking lot behind the department).
