MARIETTA — Police are asking for information after a Marietta bank was robbed Thursday afternoon.

Marietta Police Chief Rodney Hupp said between 2:10 and 2:15 p.m. Thursday, a man believed to be in his 20s or 30s entered the Citizens Bank at 110 Second St.

“He was a small statured male in an old man mask and red hoodie,” Hupp said. “He fled on foot as far as the alley behind (American) Producers (Supply Company) at 2:20 p.m.”

A police report said along with the mask and hoodie, the suspect was wearing blue pants and black gloves while carrying a black laptop bag.

He fled the bank carrying an undisclosed amount of cash.

“No one was injured,” Hupp said. “That was a big thing.”

The suspect also had what witnesses described as a firearm.

The Marietta Police Department is being assisted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Major Crimes Task Force, Hupp said.

“All surrounding agencies were given information because of the nature of the crime,” he said.

Although it is not “horrendously unusual” to have a bank robbery in Washington County, it does occasionally occur in outlying areas, Hupp explained.

“This bank was robbed 20 or 22 years ago,” he said.

Marietta Police asks that anyone with information call 740-373-4141.
