Jackson County elementary schools to be open five days

RIPLEY — The Jackson County Board of Education approved changes to allow elementary schools to begin five days a week instruction during its meeting on Thursday evening.

The change will begin on Oct. 26 and will only apply to elementary school students in grades K-5. Preschool students will resume the normal Monday-Thursday attendance schedule.

Middle and high school will continue to be on the two days per week in-person attendance model that is in place until the board determines the virus infection trends warrant an advance to a five-days per week in-person model for secondary schools.

The middle and high school attendance model is split into two groups. Students with the last names beginning A-K will attend on Monday and Tuesday and those with last names from L-Z will attend on Thursday and Friday.

COVID-19 cases will continue to be monitored and the school re-entry plan may be adjusted if conditions warrant.
