Four new COVID-19 deaths reported in West Virginia
CHARLESTON — Four deaths from the COVID-19 virus were reported in a 24-hour period Friday morning, raising the death toll to 422 in West Virginia, the Department of Health and Human Resources said.
The state has confirmed the death of a 73-year-old man from Putnam County, a 95-year-old man from Putnam County, an 83-year-old man from Putnam County and a 95-year-old woman from Brooke County.
“As West Virginians, we must not tire of preventive measures that ensure the health and safety of our friends, family and neighbors,” department Secretary Bill J. Crouch said. “I urge you to continue wearing your mask, with frequent hand washing and social distancing.”
The state reported 709,156 total confirmatory laboratory results have been received as of Friday, of which 21,392 cases have been returned as positive, an increase of 335 from Thursday morning, according to the department.
The daily positivity rate was 3.85 percent on Friday. Active cases as of Friday totaled 4,602, up from 4,473 on Thursday, with 193 people in a hospital, 68 are in intensive care and 18 are on ventilators.
Cases per local county were: Calhoun (33), Doddridge (69), Jackson (368), Pleasants (23), Ritchie (34), Roane (94), Tyler (30), Wirt (37) and Wood (519), Wyoming (216).

Wirt County was moved Friday from orange to gold in the County Alert System map. Doddridge County is orange. Jackson County is gold.
Roane County is yellow. Wood, Pleasants, Gilmer and Tyler counties are green.
