Law enforcement honored at Belpre PD awards dinner
BELPRE — Several members of the Belpre Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies were recognized Tuesday for their service to the community over the last year.
Belpre Police Chief Terry Williams organized an awards dinner Tuesday at the Main Street Napoli’s in Belpre to present recognition pins and other awards to members of his and other departments.
Williams said the awards dinner was a first for this year. Previously, the awards were presented each year during one of the Belpre City Council meetings but council has not been holding in-person meetings due to state restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Williams was pleased with Tuesday’s event and said he will be considering such a program in the future.
The awards presented by Williams on Tuesday included recognition for Honorable Service, Exceptional Service, Unit Citation, Life Saving, Good Conduct, Longevity and a K-9 Service Award. Williams also recognized Det. Alyssa McConnell with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Det. Mike Brown with the Parkersburg Police Department.
The officers receiving awards included: Williams, Sgt. Joe Fields, Sgt. Joe Kirby, Sgt. Mike Stump, Sgt. Tyler Heddleston, Det. Kerry Nichols, Ptl. Jason Campbell, Ptl. Jesse Whittington, Ptl. Bill Johnson, Ptl. Gunnar Smith, Ptl. Tyler Norris and reserve officers Derek Johnson, Bill Wilson and Dave Ferguson.
Belpre dispatchers Alicia Hubbard, Donny Myers and Amanda Townsend were recognized.
Along with a pair of unit citations recognizing several officers, the individual awards included: Life Saving Award and Medal (Whittington, Heddleston, Johnson, Fields and Smith); Exceptional Service Award (Stump and Campbell); and Honorable Service Award (Smith and Norris).
