Calhoun County Schools employee in self-quarantine

MT. ZION — An employee with Calhoun County Schools was reportedly in contact with a positive COVID-19 case and is in quarantine, according to Superintendent Kelli Whytsell.

The employee works at Pleasants Hill Elementary with a kindergarten class and Whytsell said the contact was not related to her position at the school, but was through a member of the family.

The employee did not test positive, but the kindergarten class will not come back to school until Monday, Whytsell said.

“We’re not going to have them come back until Monday for precautionary reasons. We would have had to get a sub and that was the second time they would have been back to school,” Whytsell said.

To keep the community informed of all coronavirus updates, earlier this month Whytsell reported three other school system employees who did not test positive, but self-quarantined due to their exposure to positive cases.

The school system is closely working with the health department to ensure safety for all faculty and students.

“Together we can get through these challenging times by continuing to support each other,” Whytsell said.
