Belpre City Schools to hold second online forum

BELPRE — Belpre City Schools will hold another online public forum Monday to guide parents through the district’s fall reopening plan.

This is the second online forum held by the school district ahead of the Aug. 24 opening of schools. Superintendent Jeff Greenley spoke July 27 with parents and community members through Facebook Live and the Belpre City Schools’ YouTube channel about the district’s re-entry plan.

Monday’s forum will follow a similar format, with officials presenting an overview of the plan and taking written questions from the public, Greenley said. Officials also will be providing some updates on previous information provided, he said.

Last month, the Belpre Board of Education approved a reopening plan which follows Ohio’s Public Health Advisory System which ranks the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus in each county.

According to the Belpre City School plan, if the county is ranked at levels 1 or 2, students attend school as normal. Under a level 3 ranking, students alternate attending school every other day, with Wednesdays reserved for teachers to prepare online lessons. A level 4 ranking would shut down the buildings and move all learning online.

Though Washington County is under a level 2 advisory now, officials say the first few days of the school year will begin with a reduced capacity. All students grades 4-12 will be required to wear face masks in school, while students in grades K-3 will be recommended but not required to wear face coverings. All students riding the school bus to and from school will be required to wear masks regardless of grade level.

Parents also have the option of enrolling students in virtual school. Parents were asked to indicate whether students would attend in-person classes or virtual school by Aug. 3.

The plan and a guidance letter can be accessed in the district’s live feed at https://www.belpre.k12.oh.us and physical copies will be mailed to all Belpre City Schools families.

Announcements also can be found through the Belpre City Schools app live feed.
