Volunteers sought for Market Street cleanup
PARKERSBURG — They’re going to clean up this town.
Volunteers will muster at 9 a.m. Sunday at 13th and Market streets for a mass clean up of Market from 13th to its end near the courthouse, organizers said.
“Come join us to make the major street in downtown Parkersburg look great,” said Jane Burdette, chairman of the Junior League of Parkersburg’s Done In A Day initiative. “We will be joining a number of other people including the Junior League, historic groups business leaders and environmental people to give local visitors a great first impression of our city.”
Volunteers will begin at 13th Street and work their way downtown. More volunteers means the job will go quicker, Burdette said.
“We chose Sunday because of less traffic and more individuals can socially distance,” Sherry Dugan, a volunteer on the clean up projects.
Napoli’s and Wayne Waldeck will provide pizza for volunteers. City Council President Mike Reynolds, the Wood County Waste Authority and Market Street business owners will participate.
Previous areas cleaned by volunteers include around the Good Shepherd Church on Charles Street.
Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, brooms or other utensils.
