Teenager succumbs to injuries from auto accident

MALTA — A 15-year-old child died Friday from injuries in an accident that occurred on Wednesday night, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Marietta Post said.

The juvenile attempted to jump onto the front of a moving 2008 Hyundai Elantra driven by Tanisha E. Viney, 18, of McConnelsville on Upper Douda Road near South River Road in Morgan County, the post said. The patrol’s Investigative Services Unit determined the juvenile fell off the vehicle and was ran over by it, the post said.

Malta and McConnelsville EMS took the juvenile to Genesis Medical Center in Zanesville from where the child was flown by medical helicopter to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the post said. The juvenile died of injuries on Friday, the post said.

Viney was not injured.

Alcohol is not suspected and the crash remains under investigation by the Marietta Post. The accident happened shortly before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Also responding were the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and M&M Fire Department and EMS.
