Mid-Ohio Valley students win essay contest

CHARLESTON — Two students from the region are among winners in the SMART529 “When I Grow Up” essay contest sponsored by the West Virginia State Treasurer.

They were Piper Ann Carmen, a first grader at Geary Elementary Middle School in Roane and Cameron Mitchell, who is in kindergarten at Doddridge County Elementary School. Carmen wants to be a nurse and Mitchell wants to be a chef.

Treasurer John Perdue announced the 15 regional winners and statewide teacher winner of this during a Facebook program on Friday. The announcement coincides with the national 529 Day, an annual celebration on May 29 to recognize 529 college savings plans around the country.
