BELLEVILLE — A structure fire on Wigal Road Friday morning resulted in the total loss of the home, but no injuries were reported.
The call came in around 8:30 a.m., according to Lubeck Assistant Fire Chief Jason Blue. It took the fire department about 15 minutes to arrive on the scene.
“That’s pretty quick, but a fire doubles in size every minute. It was fully involved when we got here,” Blue said.
It took about an hour to contain the fire.
“We don’t have a hydrant super close here so we’re shuttling water,” Blue said.

The home was not occupied at the time of the fire, but it is believed someone lives there. As of late Friday morning, they had yet to make contact with the owner.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but is under investigation, Blue said.
With the importance of social distancing to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 crisis, Blue said the department is not assisting with flu-like symptom calls.
“We don’t want to expose our firefighters to that. There’s already an ambulance coming. If we continue to respond to that, we wouldn’t be available for house fires or car wrecks,” Blue said.
