State superintendent to retire
CHARLESTON – West Virginia State Superintendent of Schools Steven Paine announced Wednesday that he will retire from his position effective June 30.
According to a release Wednesday morning from the state Department of Education, Paine’s departure could come earlier if the West Virginia Board of Education finds a replacement. Officials said the retirement is “to care for a family member who is experiencing significant health issues, and to spend more time with his children and grandchild.”
Officials said the board would “move expeditiously to find a new superintendent.”
