GLENVILLE — Cameron Knopp of Williamstown will represent Glenville State College at the 2020 Ohio University Honors Clarinet Choir.
Knopp, a freshman at Glenville State, is the daughter of Perry and Susan Knopp. She is a member of the Glenville State Pioneer Marching Band, Concert Band, Clarinet Ensemble, Jazz Band and Pep Band.
The Ohio University Honors Clarinet Choir is open to all high school and college clarinetists. Selection involves a competitive audition process and only 10-20 candidates are selected from live and recorded auditions.
“I feel like my GSC professors have helped prepare me for this by encouraging me to play harder music and helping me improve my techniques,” Knopp said. “To audition for the Clarinet Choir, you have to learn a classical piece and a 20th or 21st-century piece and record both consecutively without being able to cut out mistakes.”
She is a talented musician, professor Jason Barr, chairman of the Glenville State Fine Arts Department, said.
“Cameron is a tremendously talented student who is very dedicated to her musical development,” Barr said. “Her acceptance into the Ohio University Honors Clarinet Choir is a great example of how focused she is on constantly challenging herself to be a stronger musician.”
The Honors Clarinet Choir will perform March 21 at the Ohio University Clarinet Gala. The day-long event includes rehearsals, a master class from Ohio University clarinet professor Rebecca Rischin and a recital from Yamaha guest artist Julie DeRoche, a professor and chairman of clarinet and performance studies at DePaul University at Chicago, Ill.
