Ripley, Cedar Lakes getting into Christmas spirit on Saturday

RIPLEY — Gingerbread cookies, crafts, Santa and the beloved characters from Frozen will be available at Christmas at Lakes at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

This is the first year for the event, according to Karen Facemyer, director. Last year it started with a gingerbread contest. It was decided to partner with the Jackson County Family Resource Network to form a larger event.

Vendors will be organizations that offer services thorough the resource network. They will provide crafts and information for participants.

“(They’re) making it fun for families, a place to come and hang out for a while,” Facemyer said.

Carter Lumber partnered with Cedar Lakes to provide Ana, Elsa and Olaf from Frozen for the kids to meet and take pictures with them in the craft building. Another photo opportunity will be with Santa and Mrs. Clause in Jackson Hall.

Furry friends will also be there for meet and greets. The Jackson County Animal Shelter and ARF will bring cats and dogs available for adoption.

The event is free, but food donations are encouraged. All food will be donated to the Calvary United Methodist Food Bank.

Facemyer hopes families will enjoy their holiday activities.

“It’s just our way of saying thank you to the community for supporting us and giving them a place to come and do Christmas activities as a family,” she said. “We see it all the time on the Halmark Channel, all the activities they provide and we’re mimicking that.”
