Crafting workshops set for Cedar Lakes Conference Center

RIPLEY — Crafters from across America will again converge at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley for more than 90 workshops in 2020.

Weekend and week-long sessions are offered through the Craft House and the international Road Scholar life-long learning program.

“We had participants in 2019 who came here from Alaska to Florida and even a few who were from other countries,” said Melissa Litton, program director. “We would like to have more local, commuter participation, too.”

Courses are led by professional instructors with expertise in numerous topics including string instruments, fine arts, photography, creative writing and fly fishing.

Judy Lilly and Kathy Saunders teach classes about quilting. Tish Westman, Dave Bing and Heidi Muller lead toe-tapping musical workshops. Jeff McCrady, Peter Buchanan and Jeff Leister are hands-on when it comes to blacksmithing and tinsmithing.

Vivian Ripley, Jerre Watkins and Debbie Lester are painting instructors while Byron Young and Bob Barris teach woodturning and wood carving. Stephanie Danz of Mountain Art Glass teaches stained glass techniques and Colleen Anderson of Mother Wit Writing & Design is the creative writing instructor.

Randy Augustine of Trout Unlimited shares his fly-fishing techniques. John Doughty specializes in nature printing. Ron Gaskins of West Virginia Fine Photography is focused on cameras. Debbie Martzall and Wendy Elsworth teach basketry and beading.
