PARKERSBURG — On Oct. 12, the Parkersburg Woman’s Club welcomed club members from the Elizabeth, Harrisville, Ravenswood, South Parkersburg and Williamstown clubs to the 106th annual General Federation of Woman’s Clubs Western District convention.

Linda Walker, Western District president, conducted the meeting and activities for the day. Keynote address was given by Pamela McCoy, GFWC West Virginia state president. During the meeting, Sharon Sheridan, past GFWC West Virginia state president, conducted a memorial service for those who have passed. Women’s right to vote, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2020, was discussed.

During the afternoon session, Dana Richardson, GFWC West Virginia junior director, spoke to the women and election of new Western District officers for 2020-2022 was held. McCoy installed Carmen Hathaway as secretary and Colleen Meeks as treasurer. The new president, Cathi Wermter, will be installed in March at the Greenbrier. Absent was Deanna Tilley, president-elect.

Karen Dent, Western District Arts & Crafts chairwoman, coordinated the arts and crafts competition that begins at the local club level, continues to district convention and then to state competition. Approximately 30 first-place winner projects will be taken to the Greenbrier in March 2020 to be judged again.
