West Virginia DMV encourages REAL ID
CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is encouraging residents to obtain the federal REAL ID driver’s license or ID card as soon as possible. Starting in October 2020, anyone boarding aircraft or entering federal buildings must present a federal, REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card.
To obtain a REAL ID, or Gold Star driver’s license or ID card, residents must provide one proof of identity, one proof of Social Security number, two proofs of West Virginia residency and a proof of legal presence. The necessary documents are then securely scanned. An additional $10 fee will cover the cost of production and mailing. A temporary credential is issued while the hard copy license is mailed within 10-14 business days.
