The late 1994-early 1995 single “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart,” which featured guest vocals from Alison Krauss, won both artists a Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

The 57th annual event will feature live entertainment both days, a variety of food vendors, children’s activities and nearly 200 exhibitors and demonstrations.

The Harvest Moon Festival is a major fundraiser of the Wood County Recreation Commission, with all proceeds generated helping with the running of youth recreational programs throughout the year.

The festival is a juried show with local and regional artists of all media, selling their products and demonstrating throughout the weekend.

The various materials being displayed and worked include wood, candles, tole painting, photography, jewelry, lamps, totes, baskets, wreaths, soaps, furniture, body sprays, food and more. Some of the crafters will be giving demonstrations of their work during the festival.

∫ In Belpre, the Belpre Historical Society will hold its annual Belpre Heritage Day from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 21 at Belpre’s Farmers Castle Museum at 509 Ridge St.

Organizers said the event is free to thank the community for its support.

The Belpre Area Veterans will hold the flag raising ceremony at 11 a.m. There will be a silent auction, bagpipe player, dulcimer playing, antique tractors and a fire truck, a spinner, quilters , a blacksmith, a train photo display, library display and light refreshments.

If anyone has a skill to demonstrate such as basket weaving, candle making, soap making or any other skill and would like to support the historical society, they are welcome to participate, organizers said.

New this year, Pamela Douglas Brust, author of “The Hendersons, One Family’s Legacy,” will be on hand selling and signing her book. All proceeds from the sale of the book go to Henderson Hall.

The book is available in the Belpre Museum’s gift shop, at Henderson Hall, the Oil and Gas Museum in Parkersburg, Flags and Poles in Marietta, and other local locations as well as online at Amazon.com and all the major online book stores.

Brust will also be speaking at the Belpre Historical Society’s meeting scheduled for Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. at the museum. The meeting is open to the public and is free of charge.

The Farmers Castle Museum features a General Store, the Exhibit Barn, a gift shop and a Victorian era room. The society accepts donations of historical artifacts that belonged to a Belpre area family, have some significance as to time and place, and/or would be acceptable within an exhibit that the society is developing, such as the General Store.

Every item has a history and the donors are always willing to share the stories with the volunteer staff, who in turn share the history with visitors. The society is increasing its genealogy resources and would like to have copies of family histories.

The Farmers Castle Museum Education Center is open Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 1-4 p.m. through the end of October. It is open other times by appointment. Groups are especially welcome. Memberships for students, individuals, families and for businesses are available.

For more information leave a message at the museum, call 740-423-7588 or call Charlotte Powell at 740-989-2764.
