Murder suspect’s case sent to Wood County grand jury
PARKERSBURG — A suspect in the murder of a 68-year-old Parkersburg woman waived his preliminary hearing in Wood County Magistrate Court Thursday afternoon.
Michael Wayne Leadmon, 22, 3201 Broad St., Parkersburg, appeared before Wood County Magistrate Brenda Marshall on a charge of murder in the killing of Karen Yeager, whose body was found beneath the Fifth Street Bridge, earlier this month.
The case was bound over to Wood County Circuit Court for grand jury consideration.
Bond was initially denied in circuit court due to the brutal nature of the crime, officials said.
According to records, Leadmon and a 17-year-old juvenile forced their way into Yeager’s 3805 Broad St. residence and she confronted them. She was struck, strangled and stabbed, leading to her death, officials said.
The juvenile, whose name has not been released due to his age, has been arrested in connection with the murder and is being held in a secured juvenile facility.
Leadmon has a preliminary hearing on a charge of probation violation scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct. 3 before Marshall.
