Lubeck Acres Garden Club tours Henderson Hall

WILLIAMSTOWN –Lubeck Acres Garden Club on Aug. 15 toured Henderson Hall.

Members present were Judi White, Carolyn Stephens, Beth and Raymond Drake, Luwanna Rhodes, Lynn VanFosson, Jennifer White, Linda Seabolt and Lynn Greenly.

The exciting reveal for 2019 was the completion of the Kitchen Garden. The project was planned and established by Weat Virginia Master Gardeners.

After a tour and the Kitchen Garden reveal, the club held its business meeting.

White, acting president, recommended three books to be purchased and placed in the Lubeck Elementary School Library in memory of Marie Cutright. The books are “Secret lives of Backyard Bugs,” “The Monarch: Saving our Most Loved Butterfly” and “What a Waste: Trash, Recycling and Protecting our Planet.”

Care and maintenance of the Lubeck School Butterfly Garden included weeding by Judi and Jennifer Burdette.

Burdette said a conservation club planning meeting was held July 30 at her home. Students re-designed the biodegradable site in the garden at their Aug. 27 meeting.

Beth Drake reported continuing collaborations with Nedia Cyran, DEP, relative to Lubeck Acres Garden Club and Lubeck School Conservation Club.

A discussion was held regarding purchase of seedlings for the fifth-grade students for Arbor Day.

Carolyn Stephens volunteered to design the club’s yearbook.

The next regular meeting of Lubeck Acres Garden Club will be a road trip to the West Virginia Botanic Garden in Morgantown. At 9 a.m. Sept. 17, club members will meet at the old south Parkersburg K-Mart parking lot and carpool to Morgantown. Members are reminded to take water and snacks. Plans are for an afternoon lunch at Ruby and Ketchy’s.
