Pleasants County authorities capture alligator

ST. MARYS — Pleasants County authorities apprehended an unusual suspect Thursday night — a three-and-a-half-foot alligator.

According to a post on the Pleasants County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, an alligator was spotted along Middle Island Creek Road late Thursday night. A sheriff’s deputy and St. Marys Police Department officer arrived and secured the animal.

“Just goes to show, you never know what each day will bring in a career in law enforcement,” the post says.

The sheriff’s office made arrangements with the Mountain State Herpetological Society in Charleston to have the alligator transferred to its custody before being sent to the Reptile Lagoon Sanctuary in South Carolina.

Additional information, including from where the alligator came, was not immediately available Friday afternoon.
