Williamstown City Council discusses upgrades

WILLIAMSTOWN — There are upgrades in progress for more than one top local recreational spot in Williamstown.

The new toy for Tomlinson Park arrived Tuesday and the park department hopes to have it up and running by the Fourth of July weekend, councilmember Barbara Lewis announced at Tuesday’s Williamstown City Council meeting.

“We are really excited to get new equipment into our park for the kids,” she said.

Although planting is not expected to begin until fall, the Bee City Committee will start cleaning up the two small gardens in the Armstrong garden this summer.

Also in the plans for this summer is the repairing of the tennis courts by Ethan McIntyre, 15, for his Eagle Scout project.

“I am a member of the tennis team, and I wanted to help the court stay in good shape for future generations to use,” he said.

McIntyre said the project is expected to begin July 15 and be completed in August.

Passing on second reading was the “no parking ordinance.” The ordinance has designated no parking zones on various streets due to the narrow roads.

All zones, which are not already marked, will be marked with signs, according to Council member Jim Stage.

Stage said the ordinance can be added to and subtracted from, for example, on a previous reading it was said that all of Fourth Street between Henderson Avenue and Caroline Avenue would be no parking, but that was subtracted from the final reading and will be readressed after the completion of the new school.

Other announcements made at council included:
