Parkersburg Municipal Commission approves alley abandonments

PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg Municipal Planning Commission on Friday approved the abandonment of two alleys for further development.

A plan for abandonment of a 10-foot by 225-foot undeveloped alley off Dooley Avenue was presented to the commission last month, but could not be voted on due to a technical issue. It was returned to the commission Friday.

Property owner Robert Amos attended Friday’s meeting but had spoken at the previous meeting about the alley and chose not to address the board a second time. No one spoke in opposition to the abandonment.

The commission voted 9-0 to approve the motion, but amended it to include utility rights for the Parkersburg Utility Board due to an existing sewer line which runs through the area.

A second property also was brought up for a vote at Friday’s meeting. The 15-foot by 150-foot undeveloped alley split properties owned by Christopher Roush who is developing the area. The alleyway is off 25th Street and next to Brookside Manor Apartments.

Though no one spoke in opposition to the abandonment, commission member Sherry Dugan said she knew of one person who intended to move out of that area due to the development. Dugan gave no additional details and other commission members voiced support of Roush, saying he has done good work in the community and Dugan’s comments had no bearing on the item being considered.

Dugan seconded a motion to approve the abandonment. The commission voted 9-0 to approve the motion.

Officials said no meeting has been scheduled for July.
