Electricians celebrate 100 Years in the community

MARIETTA — The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 972 is celebrating its centennial anniversary this month with special events on Friday and Saturday and the publication of a 100-year history book to commemorate the milestone.

Local 972 was chartered on June 19, 1919, and has powered Marietta and Athens, Meigs, Morgan, Noble, Washington, Monroe and Vinton counties in Southeastern Ohio for the past century. The union is marking the occasion with a River Cruise reception on Friday and a dinner and dance on Saturday at in the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center at Marietta College.

As part of the celebration, Local 972 also is publishing a commemorative history program book through Union Histories that will be available at the dance and afterward on www.unionhistories.com.

Among the many buildings and projects with Local 972 participation was the Marietta Municipal Building, Marietta College, Ohio University including the first female dormitory in Lindley Hall, Muskingum River Power Plant, Union Carbide, Belleville and Racine dams, Athena State Hospital, Marietta High School, the Berne Natural Gas Processing Complex, Shell Chemical and the new Hannibal Port Power Project.
