PARKERSBURG — CPR was performed on a 6-year-old child Friday afternoon at the Parkersburg City Park swimming pool after he swallowed water and stopped breathing.

Capt. Brian Drake with the Parkersburg Fire Department said a nurse and lifeguards were on the scene and began CPR immediately on the child.

“By the time we arrived on scene the child was breathing but lethargic,” Drake said.

The child was taken by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown as a precaution. Information on the child’s condition was unavailable afternoon.
