Parkersburg High School’s Tooker recipient of Ami-John Prize
PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg High School student has been named the 2019 recipient of the Ami-John Crawford West Prize.
Tiffany Tooker, a senior at Parkersburg High School, was awarded the Ami-John Crawford and Harriet C. West Prize at Tuesday’s meeting of the Wood County Board of Education. The prize was presented by Rachel Brezler of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation.
The charitable fund belongs to the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation’s family of funds and honors Mr. and Mrs. John M. Crawford, who established the Ami-John Prize in 1928, and J.J. and Harriet West, who also created a prize fund.
Brezler said both families recognized the importance of rewarding students in their quest for knowledge, and this prize provides on ongoing legacy to these families’ support of education. The prize is awarded to the best all-around student from any Parkersburg high school or middle school. The Wood County Board of Education selects the recipient, based on qualities that include service, leadership, character and scholarship.
Tooker was praised for her academic achievements, community work and all-around positive attitude.
