Authorities arrest Williamstown man in gun theft case

WILLIAMSTOWN — A man wanted in Marietta was arrested Thursday by the Williamstown Police Department.

David Edward Powers, 37, Williamstown, was wanted in Washington County on a fugitive from justice warrant accusing him of the first-degree felony theft of a firearm by authorities in Marietta, Williamstown Police Chief Shawn Graham said. Powers is accused of stealing a firearm on April 12 from Bridgeport Equipment and Tool.

Williamstown Police were made aware of the warrant on Thursday, Graham said. About 20 minutes later, police saw Powers walking on Highland Avenue near 4¢th Street, Graham said.

Powers was taken into custody without incident and taken before Magistrate Robin Waters, who remanded him to the regional jail without bond. An extradition hearing will be held in Wood County Circuit Court, Graham said.
