PARKERSBURG — Thanks to sponsorship support from area businesses and organizations, free community yoga will take place each Wednesday at the Point this summer, said Full Circle Yoga and Yoga at Point Park.

In 2016, in a collaboration to provide outside community yoga to the Mid-Ohio Valley, Yoga at the Point was established. Each week from May to the end of August, yoga is provided at the Point Park at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays from a Full Circle Yoga instructor.

Yoga at the Point has been growing with a class average of 50 people each week and up to 100 people practicing yoga along the Ohio River in the amphitheater at Point Park in Parkersburg.

Full Circle Yoga of Vienna is owned by Cheryl and Patrick McHugh.

“We are excited to be able to provide free community yoga each week. We are grateful for the partnerships we’ve established with area businesses and organizations that allow us to provide this opportunity to the community,” said Cheryl McHugh.

In 2019, the studio wanted to try something new. Access to yoga for everyone has become the initiative of the nonprofit Project Yoga MOV, which was established by the Vienna studio in 2016.

Integrating that concept with Yoga at the Point, the idea was to seek sponsorships from area organizations so the first 50 people each week could practice for free. In years past, the fee was $5 per person and if any of the Summer of 2019 classes exceed 50 people, the fee will be $5 per person, McHugh said.

“I’ve enjoyed practicing yoga at the Point each year since it began. I am excited to have the opportunity to sponsor something I love and share with the community,” said Annetta Crawford, realtor at Douglass and Company.

Douglass and Company is one of the 14 organizations that are helping to provide free community yoga for the first 50 people each week in the MOV this summer.
