Wood Schools seeking Teacher of Year nominations

From staff reports

PARKERSBURG — Nominations are being accepted for the annual Wood County Schools Teacher of the Year.

The public is encouraged to submit nominations for the 2020 Teacher of the Year. In past years nominations have come from schools or teachers who nominate themselves, but the process was changed in 2017 to encourage educators, parents, students and residents to nominate a teacher they feel is worthy.

The nomination process opened last week and will run through Jan. 25. Nomination forms can be found at tinyurl.com/wcboetoy2020.

A winner will be announced April 16. The Wood County Teacher of the Year will then be entered to compete for State Teacher of the Year.

All local nominations will be reviewed by a panel, which includes two former Wood County Teachers of the Year, representatives of the local chapters of the American Federation of Teachers, West Virginia Education Association and West Virginia Professional Educators, as well as representatives from West Virginia University at Parkersburg and the Chamber of Commerce of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
