Man charged with child neglect

PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg man was charged with two counts of child neglect after allegedly passing out while doing drugs with his two young children in the house.

Parkersburg Police responded to a report of a possible overdose Monday morning at 611 1/2 Bird St., according to a criminal complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court. They found emergency medical personnel providing aid to 24-year-old Dalton Tyler Pickering of that address.

Pickering’s nearly 2-year-old child was beside him, and a second child, age 6 months, was asleep in a crib in a bedroom, the complaint says. No other adults were in the residence at the time.

Pickering reportedly said he had allowed two people with whom he was unfamiliar into the residence and used methamphetamine with them. He said he passed out, leaving him unable to care for the children.

Officers arrested Pickering on two counts of child neglect with risk of serious bodily injury or death. He is being held at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County on a $10,000 surety bond.
