‘PSHS 50,’ historic photo books now available

Can be found at newspaper offices

PARKERSBURG — For the last few months Mid-Ohio Valley residents have been able to buy a trio of books being offered by the newspaper.

“PSHS 50,” “Picturesque Past” and “Around Town” are all now available to be picked up or purchased at the newspaper office.

“PSHS 50” — a new 128-page hard-back book — takes a look at the people and events that helped start and shape Parkersburg South High School over the five decades it has served families on the south side of the Little Kanawha River.

“Around Town” — a new 144-page book — is a must-have for anyone who treasures the history of the area. Featuring scores of never-published photos, the book puts a spotlight on many of the places that today exist only as memories.

“Picturesque Past” — originally published in 2001 — is a 128-page updated edition and a perfect complement to “Around Town.” It features hundreds of photos not published in that book. Both publications are visual histories of daily life in the Marietta area.

“Our newspapers provide Mid-Ohio Valley readers with the first draft of history,” said publisher James Spanner. “These books provide a look back at that history and the people and places we have covered for generations.”

The three books join “PHS 100” that was published last year and showcases the 100 years since Parkersburg High School was constructed on Dudley Avenue.

All four books can be purchased at either The Parkersburg News and Sentinel office at 519 Juliana St. or at The Marietta Times office at 700 Channel Lane.

People who ordered the books to be shipped should get them in the mail in a few days.
