Authorities make arrest in Spencer murder

SPENCER — A man was arrested Thursday night for the murder of a Spencer resident.

Michael John Smith, 37, is in the Central Regional Jail pending bond for the murder of James Lee Hall, 36, Spencer, who was found dead in his residence on Sunday, police said. Authorities investigated the death as a homicide.

Smith, sought by the sheriff’s department and West Virginia State Police, was taken into custody at a Go Mart in Spencer, according to press reports.

Hall is survived by two daughters, a sister and three brothers. Services are noon today at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer.
