WVU, NC State football game off

The football game between West Virginia University and North Carolina State scheduled Saturday in North Carolina will not be played because of likely unsafe conditions from Hurricane Florence, WVU announced on Tuesday.

Emergency management resources are expected to be fully utilized and needed throughout the region, and the decision will help give ample time to deploy those resources across the state, the university said in a press release.

The colleges, the Atlantic Coast Conference and emergency management personnel worked together “to arrive at a decision in the best interests of the safety and well-being of fans, student-athletes and all parties involved,” WVU said.

Should this game be rescheduled or a replacement home game be scheduled, tickets for the West Virginia game will be valid. If this game or a replacement home game is not viable, a refund will be offered to season ticket holders, WVU said.

The details will be announced at a later date.

Florence is expected to reach the coast of the Carolinas on Thursday.
